Taken by J.C. Valentine

Taken – J.C. Valentine

***3 It Wasn’t Enough Stars***

When they say “do not judge a book by its cover”, take this saying literal with this one! I went into this book thing it was going to be a dark read and boy was I way off LOL. The story was cute and funny in its own little way.

Elise is a making a pit stop at the grocery store to buy wine on Easter morning when she is suddenly taken hostage by two men for no apparent reason. She has no family, doesn’t come from money, and is basically a loner. She is trying to figure out why she was abducted and is trying to figure out a way out of this situation but at the same time tells herself that being abducted is probably the most exciting thing that has happened to her to date. Her abductors are an unlikely pair, almost like Abbott and Costello if you will. She gives her abductors nicknames – Manhandler for the one who grabbed her and Driver for obvious reasons. It doesn’t take Elise anytime to figure out who is bad abductor/good abductor and she tries to use this to her advantage. Elise is funny in her own way and the bickering between Manhandler and Driver is funny at times.

This is not your typical girl gets abducted/falls in love with her captor book. It’s a short read and although there is a HEA, there was really no plot and there are questions that were left unanswered in my opinion. Elise is very funny in the book which is probably why I enjoyed it. I always enjoy a funny heroine! It’s short, fast paced and before you know it, you’re reading the ending. Overall, this wasn’t the best read, but it wasn’t the worst either.
